This is the longest I have ever lived anywhere since leaving home. Four whole years! Just before that we had moved 6 times in 5years.
Whilst I’m very good at chatting to anyone and bouncing about in my “I’m Bryony” way, the outward self confidence doesn’t always match the inner dialogue.
I’m used to making friends quickly and find myself adapting to the changing situations. On one hand, I’m a leader and have strong direction and opinions, on the other I’m carefree a risk taker and very childish, which helps to be a chameleon in many situations… but do I lose a little of myself every time I try to fit in?
I’ve decided no! When I step back and notice I realise those people that I can easily spend hours with, and that I can be comfortably my whole self with all my sides, without the fear of judgement, are likely to be my tribe. The people where I feel confident inside and out, those that I gain energy being around instead of being drained – which is saying something as I truly have extroversion preference – meaning I gain energy from being around people.
So how can I identify who these people are?
The key to finding my tribe is to look for people who have similar values
This doesn’t mean we have to agree on everything, but it does mean that key values need to be aligned and not in conflict.
I have found this extremely uplifting starting my new venture with Neals Yard. Having aligned values with a company that is British, organic, cruelty free, no nasties like parabens, ethical, sustainable, carbon neutral just makes life that much more pleasant!
I hope you have the courage, confidence and commitment to be yourself, know your values and find your tribe!
